SEND Special Educational Needs & Disabilities
Ferndale Primary School and Nursery is a vibrant, friendly place where the children are at the heart of everything we do. We believe in teaching skills, sharing knowledge and building special memories that children will take with them through the rest of their lives. We believe that through inspirational teaching, determination, a lot of love and a lot of laughter, the children in our school can achieve their greatest potential, regardless of their starting points in life.
We believe in teaching, modelling values and preparing them for life in the 21st Century and we believe in doing so, we will give them a solid foundation for their future.
It is our intent at Ferndale that all children will have access to the very best education no matter what their need is. We are committed to the equal inclusion of all pupils in all areas of school life. We recognise the diverse and individual needs of all our pupils and consider the additional support required by those children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Our main strategy to support SEND children is through providing the highest quality-first-teaching (QFT) and creativity in the curriculum with planned for cultural experiences. We believe in positive intervention; removing barriers to learning; raising expectations and levels of achievement and working in partnership with parents and other agencies to provide a positive educational experience for all SEND pupils.
Ferndale Primary School will take steps to prevent SEND children from being treated less favourably that other pupils. To promote aqality of opportunity for SEND pupils, we will make reasonable adjustments to prevent them from being put under a disadvantage.
All pupils follow the National Curriculum at a level and pace suitable for their ability. Our SEND ethos places SEND children at the heart of personalised learning and our curriculum is tailored to meet individual pupils needs.
Should a parent / carer have questions regarding your child’s needs and the level of support required for your child to make relevant progress, appointments can be made with your child’s teacher and / or the SENCo via the school office. We hope that together we can alleviate concerns and work together to make sure each child is moving towards fulfilling their individual potential and becoming more independent. A positive and supportive relationship with parents is one of our most powerful resources and has a significant impact upon pupil progress.
